Powers & Abilities
Biography
Ororo Munroe was born in Harlem, New York to an American photojournalist father and a Kenyan princess mother. When she was six, her parents were killed when a fighter jet crashed into their home in Cairo during the Suez Crisis. Young Ororo was trapped beneath the rubble for days, developing the severe claustrophobia that would haunt her throughout her life. Orphaned and alone, she survived as a street thief in Cairo, becoming an expert pickpocket — even stealing from a young Charles Xavier.
Eventually drawn south by an instinctive pull, Ororo crossed the Sahara and arrived in Kenya, where her mutant ability to control the weather manifested in full. The local tribes worshipped her as a goddess — she brought rain during droughts, calmed storms, and made the land flourish. It was here that Professor Xavier found her and recruited her for his new team of X-Men, asking her to leave her paradise and fight for a world that feared and hated her kind.
Storm rose from team member to team leader to one of the most powerful and respected figures in the entire Marvel Universe. She led the X-Men during some of their greatest trials — including leading without her powers after they were stripped by government technology, proving that her leadership comes from who she is, not what she can do. She defeated Cyclops for command without a single power, married the Black Panther and became Queen of Wakanda, and ultimately terraformed Mars with a single display of her Omega-level abilities.
Storm is a character of extraordinary range — a goddess, a thief, a queen, a revolutionary, and above all a leader. She is one of the first major Black female superheroes in comics, and her influence on the medium and on representation cannot be overstated. From her debut in Giant-Size X-Men #1 to her reign as Regent of Arakko, Ororo Munroe has proven again and again that she is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe — and one of its finest heroes.
