Biography
Victor Creed was born a mutant in the 19th century, his feral mutation manifesting early with razor-sharp claws, fangs, and animal-like senses. Raised in a household of abuse — his father chained him in the basement after his mutation emerged — Victor eventually killed his father and escaped into the wilderness. The experience forged him into something more animal than man, a predator who reveled in violence and viewed other people as prey.
Over the decades, Sabretooth became one of the most feared killers in the world. He served in multiple wars, worked as a mercenary and assassin, and was eventually recruited into the CIA's Team X alongside Wolverine, Maverick, and others. It was in Team X that the two feral mutants first clashed, beginning a blood feud that would span over a century. The Weapon X program experimented on both men, further entwining their histories.
Sabretooth's rivalry with Wolverine is the most personal and savage in Marvel Comics. Every year on Logan's birthday, Creed tracks him down and attacks him — a sadistic tradition that embodies their dynamic. Where Wolverine fights to control his animal nature, Sabretooth embraces it completely. He is everything Logan fears he could become — a man who surrendered to the beast inside and never looked back.
As a member of the Marauders, Sabretooth participated in the Mutant Massacre — the slaughter of the Morlocks — cementing his status as one of the X-Men's deadliest enemies. He has served on the Brotherhood of Mutants, been briefly imprisoned by the X-Men, and even had his morality temporarily inverted during the Axis event, becoming a hero. On Krakoa, Sabretooth was one of the first mutants exiled to the Pit — a living prison — for breaking mutant law, leading to Victor LaValle's critically acclaimed series exploring whether even the worst monster can face judgment.
