Biography

Gamora was the last survivor of the Zen-Whoberi people β€” an entire race exterminated by the Universal Church of Truth on orders that ultimately traced back to the Magus. The Mad Titan Thanos found the orphaned child and adopted her, raising her as a living weapon. He trained her in every form of combat, cybernetically enhanced her body, and forged her into the deadliest woman in the galaxy. She was his assassin, his daughter, and his greatest creation β€” and when she discovered he planned to destroy the universe, she turned against him. He killed her for it.

Created by Jim Starlin in Strange Tales #180 (1975), Gamora was introduced alongside Adam Warlock as part of Starlin's cosmic mythology β€” a universe of mad gods, cosmic gems, and beings whose power dwarfed anything on Earth. Starlin wrote her as Thanos' secret weapon against the Magus, but her true significance was personal: she was the daughter who rejected the monster who raised her, choosing Warlock's side over Thanos' nihilism.

Gamora was resurrected within the Soul Gem and fought in the Infinity Gauntlet war against Thanos. She joined the Infinity Watch as guardian of the Time Gem, served in Abnett and Lanning's Guardians of the Galaxy alongside Star-Lord and Rocket Raccoon, and became one of the most important characters in cosmic Marvel. Zoe SaldaΓ±a's MCU portrayal made Gamora a global icon β€” but in the comics, her story is darker, more complex, and more tragic.

During Infinity Wars (2018), Gamora adopted the identity of Requiem and did the unthinkable: she decapitated Thanos, collected the Infinity Stones, and folded the universe in half. The daughter became more dangerous than the father. Her journey from Thanos' weapon to Guardian to cosmic threat to redeemed hero is one of the most compelling arcs in Marvel's cosmic mythology β€” proof that the deadliest woman in the galaxy earned that title not through Thanos' training, but through her own unbreakable will.
