Biography

Felicia Hardy is the Black Cat — the greatest cat burglar in the Marvel Universe and Spider-Man's most complicated love interest. The daughter of Walter Hardy, a legendary thief, Felicia followed her father into a life of crime and became one of New York's most elusive criminals. She fell in love with Spider-Man — not Peter Parker. She loved the mask, the thrill, the rooftop chases, and the danger. She had no interest in the ordinary man beneath the suit.

Created by Marv Wolfman and Keith Pollard in Amazing Spider-Man #194 (1979), Black Cat was Spider-Man's answer to Catwoman — a beautiful thief who blurred the line between enemy and lover. Their romance across the early 80s is one of Spider-Man's most memorable relationships. When Felicia discovered Spider-Man was Peter Parker, she was horrified — she wanted the hero, not the man. She even obtained bad luck powers from the Kingpin to be Spider-Man's equal, not knowing Fisk designed them to sabotage Peter.

Felicia's darkest turn came when Otto Octavius (posing as Spider-Man during Superior Spider-Man) publicly arrested and humiliated her. Believing Peter had betrayed her, Felicia became a crime boss — the queen of New York's underworld. Dan Slott and Nick Spencer eventually reconciled Peter and Felicia, but the scars remain.

Jed MacKay's Black Cat (2019) is the definitive solo series — Felicia as a heist queen stealing from Doctor Strange, the Fantastic Four, and the Kingpin. MacKay proved that Felicia Hardy is far more than Spider-Man's girlfriend — she is a world-class thief, a survivor, and one of the most charming characters in Marvel Comics. The Black Cat doesn't need Spider-Man. She just enjoys the chase.
