Biography
Bruce Wayne was born into wealth and privilege as the heir to the Wayne family fortune in Gotham City. At the age of eight, his world shattered when his parents, Thomas and Martha Wayne, were murdered before his eyes in a mugging gone wrong in what would become known as Crime Alley. Standing over their bodies, the young boy made a vow — he would wage war on crime so that no one would ever suffer as he had.
Bruce spent his youth traveling the world, training with the greatest martial artists, detectives, scientists, and escape artists on Earth. He mastered over 127 forms of combat, earned multiple degrees, and honed his body and mind to the absolute peak of human potential. Returning to Gotham, he adopted the identity of Batman — a dark, terrifying symbol designed to strike fear into the hearts of criminals.
Unlike most superheroes, Batman has no superhuman powers. His weapons are his intellect, his iron will, his physical training, and the vast resources of Wayne Enterprises. He operates from the Batcave beneath Wayne Manor, aided by his loyal butler Alfred Pennyworth and a succession of partners including Robin, Batgirl, and Nightwing — collectively known as the Bat-Family.
Batman's rogues gallery is arguably the greatest in comics. The Joker, his chaotic opposite, defines the eternal struggle between order and madness. Catwoman blurs the line between enemy and lover. Ra's al Ghul offers him an empire. Bane broke his body. The Riddler challenges his mind. Together, they form a mythology that has made Batman one of the most enduring fictional characters ever created — from his debut in 1939 to the present day.
